It is 2020, a new year and a new decade. We each deserve to spend some of our precious time here on Earth excavating inner freedom, peace and joy - through connecting to our own souls and others.
This seven-day, six-night island retreat has bubbled up from a deep desire to seek peace - for each of us as individuals, and together. We will gather in a place of phenomenal beauty, and dive deep into LIFE! For a week we will do our best to shake free of the attachments and day-to-day stressors we all feel so we can get a little clearer on the truth of who we are - as bright as the stars, as fluid as the sea. This is the first time Yogaway has traveled to a private island, and this was chosen with intention. This retreat is our most all-inclusive offering yet (read on for the details) to support a true feeling of retreat. There will be plenty to fill up our days, but even as we adventure and explore on and around the small island, simplicity will be our beacon.
We have chosen a supremely comfortable, stunning, eco-conscious and ethical retreat center in Belize for this journey. The twice-daily yoga classes led by Checka Antifonario will include a variety of accessible and powerful yoga and meditation modalities that she has studied and taught over the past 12 years. The sequence of practices will be designed to guide you deeper into inner peace and knowing as the week evolves. The hope and intention is that after our retreat, we will each step back into our daily lives feeling strong, refreshed, rested and ready to show up fully!
Thatch Caye is a private island off the coast of Belize; it is limited to 30 guests at a time. The company who owns this island resort, Muy'Ono, donates a portion of every reservation to local charities and is a proud member of "Pack for a Purpose", an initiative that allows travelers like us to make a lasting impact in the community at our destination. Muy'Ono is also an employer of choice in Belize, investing heavily in development and educational programs that provide opportunities for professional and personal growth. Muy’Ono is also committed to preserving the beautiful, yet fragile, natural environment that is the main attraction in Belize. They focus on eliminating any potential negative environmental impact associated with their operations. The staff at Thatch Caye care deeply about their guests and work hard to ensure positive experiences for all who travel to this beautiful place. Check out their TripAdvisor reviews to read all the glowing words from guests!
So how will we fill our days at Thatch Caye? Of course we will be spending ample time in practice, with morning and afternoon yoga classes exclusive to our group held mainly at Serenity Point (covered yoga platform over the ocean) with perhaps a class or two on the beach! We will also gather one evening under the new moon - when the stars shine the brightest - to clear out the old and set intentions for the month or even the year ahead.
We will enjoy three delicious chef prepared meals per day plus a mid-afternoon snack. Need a refreshment outside of meal times? No problem - beverages of all types are included included all day and evening long. You can choose to take advantage of the kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear, fishing poles and other non-motorized island toys that will be available to you as part of your retreat package, and there are ten bikes available for cruising around the island as well. If it's stillness you're craving, take some time to relax in the hammock on your deck (yes, all accommodations have hammocks!). Or you can always hop on the WiFi in the Coco Lounge to check in with folks at home and then go back the beach or for a swim in the natural saltwater pool. With advance notice the resort can also arrange an add-on massage or body treatments on your deck - imagine receiving this healing with the ocean literally a few feet away!
And have we mentioned this island is a sanctuary for wildlife? Sitting on the edge of the second largest Barrier Reef in the world, we will coexist with our wildlife companions such as fish, rays, sharks, turtles, starfish, dolphins, manatee, Dewey the island dog, Iguanas, Pelicans, and many other friends. And in case you do decide you would like to venture out into even more adventure, the resort does provided a broad range of both land and water-based optional excursions to add on.
Without further ado, let's talk about where you will stay! The accommodations are the crown jewel of Thatch Caye, all recently renovated with reclaimed island materials. Bungalows are literally over the water, and cabanas boast gorgeous ocean views. Each accommodation is a true oasis with outdoor space, air conditioning (though they suggest leaving the windows open), and more importantly, no “real world” distractions. Rooms do include bottled water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hair dryers. You won’t find a phone, TV, or WiFi in your room, but all are available at the Coco Lounge, if you happen to need them.
Sold out - PREMIERE OCEANFRONT CABANA - This accommodation can house 1-3 people (a king, two twins, or three twins). Beautifully located, the four elegant and spacious Premier Oceanfront Cabanas have spectacular ocean views, window seats, easy chairs and dining tables. A 400 sq. ft. private roof patio with hammocks and lounge chairs complete your spacious home away from home. Premier Oceanfront Cabanas have air conditioning, but we recommend opening the windows and enjoying the cool breeze provided by the Caribbean Sea. Check out the full loveliness here.
Sold out - PREMIERE OVERWATER BUNGALOW - This accommodation can house 1-2 people in a king or twin beds. It is built on stilts out over the ocean. With stunning 180° views of distant islands and clear blue water, it is a magical place to stay. Relax and unwind in a hammock on your private patio, which sways in the warm island breezes. Each bungalow is colorfully decorated and has an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. The Premiere Bungalow is the more private of the bungalow options with its own overwater walkway and private patio (as opposed to the Overwater Bungalows which share a staircase and big deck) but it is also smaller in size than the Overwater Bungalows. You can see all of the details as well as a floor plan here.
Sold out - OVERWATER BUNGALOW - This accommodation can house 1-2 people in a king or twin beds. Perched high above the sea, these more spacious overwater bungalows easily accommodate 2 adults very comfortably. The three overwater bungalows share a large deck with hammocks swaying in the breeze. Each bungalow has individual bathrooms with shower and air-conditioning (but you likely won’t need it). You can see all of the details as well as a floor plan here.
